Ainsley Jointed Pelham

A Jointed Pelham, also referred to as a Broken Pelham, is a type of horse bit characterised by its single hinge in the centre, which creates a V-shape when pressure is applied.  

The simplicity of the single joint provides direct and clear signals to the horse, which can be beneficial for straight forward communication between rider and horse. The single joint primarily distributes the pressure primarily to the sides of the tongue and bars, making it suitable for horses that respond well to a more pronounced pressure.

This bit is particularly useful as a transitional bit while the horse is still getting used to the increase pressure around the chin, it also allows for more lateral movement through the use of two hands giving you the ability to help the horse out when needed.
